I was put off by PHP a bit at first, people would say to me that you really need a good foundation in maths in order to program in it. Now I’m awful at maths but I gave PHP a shot never the less and took to it like a duck to water. I feel its more about puzzle solving than maths.
I previously worked at a small marketing agency as a web developer with very little PHP experience.. after about a year working I was pretty much there with it, then. I think the secret, much like most things, is practise, practise, practise.
Also make sure you’re comfortable with HTML first, before you attempt PHP/MySQL!
I know it sounds obvious but the ‘secret’ and the only real way to do it is to eat sensibly and exercise. Eat what you love but do it in moderation!
