“Jacob” by Jacquelyn Frank

Started: November 8th, 2009

Comments: It’s really funny; usually i really like romance novels, and this one is very harlequin with erotic parts. THe reason it’s funny is because it’s Jacob and Bella, and it really reminds me of the Twilight Series. Jacob in this book is a nightwalker (which includes demons, vamps and werewolves), and Jacob in Twilight is a werewolf. Bella is the center of attention, pretty and all that, as is Bella in Twilight. There’s a special mind-thing going on between Bella and Jacob in this book (Jacob can’t hear anyone’s thoughts but Bella’s) which reminds me of Bella and Edwards mind-thing in Twilight (Edward hears everyone’s thoughts but Bella’s).

Also, they can’t have sex because Jacob (like Edward in Twilight) because it might hurt or kill Bella. heheh makes me laugh

“In a Sunburned Country” by Bill Bryson

started: May 29, 2009
finished: about 2 months later

rating: 10/10

comments: I already know I love Australia, but I didn’t know much about its history and present story. I’ve heard of this book, renamed “Down Under” in Australia; many of my international friends had read this book. I decided to read it, and now I know Australia fascinates me. I want to read the book again, and I most definitely want to go back to Australia and visit some of the places Bill Bryson talked about.

The book is well researched and really funny. I truly recommend it, especially if you have an interest or curiosity about Australia.

30 things every woman should have and know by the time she’s 30. This is a really good one!

By 30, you should HAVE:

1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.
2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.
3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.
4. A purse, a suitcase and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.
5. A youth you’re content to move beyond.
6. A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.
7. The realization that you are actually going to have an old age—and some money set aside to help fund it.
8. An e-mail address, a voice mailbox and a bank account—all of which nobody has access to but you.
9. A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.
10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.
11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill and a black lace bra.
12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.
13. The belief that you deserve it.
14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30.
15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship and all those other facets of life that do get better.

By 30, you should KNOW:

1. How to fall in love without losing yourself.
2. How you feel about having kids.
3. How to quit a job, break up with a man and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.
4. When to try harder and when to walk away.
5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.
6. The names of: the secretary of state, your great-grandmother and the best tailor in town.
7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.
8. How to take control of your own birthday.
9. That you can’t change the length of your calves, the width of your hips or the nature of your parents.
10. That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.
11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.
12. That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs or not flossing for very long.
13. Who you can trust, who you can’t and why you shouldn’t take it personally.
14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.
15. Why they say life begins at 30.

1. Perfect a signature dish. You’ve got to have one delicious dish that will leave people searching through your drawers to find the recipe.

2. Complete a physical challenge you never envisioned doing. Climb Kilimanjaro. Run a half marathon. Take up tai chi. Physical fitness translates into mental toughness―always a valuable trait in business.

3. Go on a silent retreat. No talking for three days. Bring a journal; the revelations will come pouring out!

4. Give your body the works. Pamper yourself with a complete head-to-toe spa treatment. It’s worth the price―just once!

5. Take the dream vacation. You could spend a lifetime waiting for the right timing and financial security, but life’s too short to miss out, so do it anyway. Bora Bora, here you come!

6. Be photographed in the buff. Nude photography done tastefully can be a freeing experience, and it can redefine the way you look at yourself.

7. Speak your mind for a day. Whatever comes to mind, shout it out loud. Find out who is surprisingly unoffended.

8. Read the classics. Set aside a few hours each Saturday and treat yourself to literature’s finest―it will enrich your life and broaden your thinking.

9. Create your inspiration space. Decorate a room to call yours―and only yours―with colors, artwork, quotes, and items that motivate you and inspire creativity.

10. Hire a stylist. She’ll come to your home, help you sort out your clothes, make combinations you would have never thought of, and determine what shapes, colors, fabrics, and styles were made for you. You’ll leave feeling like you went on a shopping spree without having to buy a thing.

“Eclipse” by Stephenie Meyer

finished: May 7th, 2009

comments: I would have rated the first book of the Twilight Saga, called “Twilight” as perfect because it loved it truly, but the second book “New Moon” was a disappointment, it made me hate all the characters. This one was finally good again, and it’s definitely setting the stage up for the final book “Breaking Dawn”. It’s too bad the chemistry in the book is not really captured onscreen in the movie :(

“Remember Me?” by Sophie Kinsella

started: April 27th, 2009
finished: April 27th, 2009

rating: 9/10
comments: I want to put it 10/10, but it’s a regular storyline, and would be perfect for a girly movie. It’s cute and a very easy read, hot at times, makes you wonder, and keep reading. Yeah I read it in less than 24 hours! I loved it, it was awesome. Waaaaaay better than Shopaholic!!

“Wicked” by Gregory Macguire

started: February 3rd, 2009
finished: April 26th, 2009

rating: 8/10
comments: It was long and very detailed, but it’s so interesting to see the story from the point of view of the Wicked Witch of the West. It took me a while because I had to put it down during midterms and final exams! I really do prefer the broadway musical though; it’s not as sad, and the characters evolve a whole lot more.

Comments: entertaining. cute love story, but kind of empty. and there is a tiny little mystery, that’s not so intriguing. I wouldnt read it again. It’s set in the middle ages, and I prefer reading about today’s day and age, in case I could relate. Didn’t relate to this one at all.
