I volunteered at the North Short Animal League as a teenager. It is a no-kill private shelter. Although it was not always fun cleaning up the messes, it was rewarding work and I really felt we were helping the animals find new and better homes. We used to screen the applicants to make sure they would be able to take good care of their dog or cat. Soliciting donations was really interesting! It can be hard to ask people for money, but knowing the money will be well spent makes it easier. Of course the most fun part was playing with all the puppies and kittens!
