Ok, so SXSWi has given Digital Web Magazine an extra ticket to give away. I decided to write a blog post about this asking to hear from people who would want to go and why we should give them the ticket. So, if you are interested in getting a free ticket, please post a comment there.

Ok, so I thought I would start a “thing” about this since no one has done it so far. Today at Idea Day I was able to heckle Josh Petersen, CEO of Robot Co-Op. Have you Heckled Josh or another robot? Tell me how it went.

Well, since all the cool kids seem to be getting invites, I though I would make a 43 Things entry for those who want invites to 43 Places. So add yourself to this goal if you are interested in this goal and maybe we can convince the Robots to invite us.

If you play electric, it’s a must. I got a RG570 FMB-C and I love it.

Every year I make it a point to help organize and attend webvisions in Portland, Oregon. It’s a pretty amazing conference that focuses on “what’s next” for the web. It’s not just about technology or software, it’s about ideas and innovation. This year we’re covering the topic of convergence. Are you going to make it?

First, you must also be fully accepting of constructive criticism… the editors and copy editors are there to help you improve some areas of your writing that you may not be aware of. Listen to them and learn. Also be willing to accept rejection. Some of the best articles I have read were rejected from other publications because of topic or theme. Just because you get a rejection letter doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. Second, write about what you are passionate about. Thrid, set goals for yourself beyond the deadlines given to from the editors. This will help you make small steps toward completing the article. Fourth, review review review. Read your work outloud if you have to. Then have someone else review your work. It’s always good to have one or two extra pairs of eyeballs reading your work.

If there is one thing I have learned about authoring articles is that you need to have a strong passion about what you will be writing about. If that passion is not there you will find yourself looking at a blank page or many crumpled up pieces of paper. Of course along with the passion for the subject matter you must also be fully accepting of constructive criticism… the editors and copy editors are there to help you improve some areas of your writing that you may not be aware of. Listen to them and learn.
