Just prior to Memorial Day, my boyfriend Mickey and I drove to Kentucky to bring my daughter Eva back home to NOLA. We spent Memorial Day Weekend with my sister Tiffany, and her family at the home of our cousin Clarissa and her family. It was a wonderful time. We put up tents for the children in the back yard. We grilled dinner, ate lots of snacks and went to Beech Bend Park.
It is a 10 hour drive from NOLA to south central KY so we don’t visit as often as we should. It is our plan to make this trip at least 3 times a year so the children can grow up knowing thier cousins.
I can’t speak for the others but I know my family, including the dog, had an amazing time. We can’t wait till fall when we have the chance to do it again.

My mother was an alcoholic. She struggled with her addiction for most of my life. She also suffered from bipolar disorder. Many of my happy memories are tainted by the pain of uncertainty and broken promises. When she was sober and happy she was an excellent parent. Fun and creative. I wish she had been able to secure treatment for her illness and be the woman and parent she wanted to be.
I do not want my daughter to have these mixed emotions when she speaks of me to friends and family. Eva is an exceptional child. I work hard each and every day to be the mother she deserves.
Definitely worth doing it if your language skills are strong enough. If you are still working on your skills (hell, I’m from the south and don’t know that I have mastered english yet) find a group study. Having very fluent reader as a guide is a big help. I have also read some Maupassant in french. That made me happy too. My current aspiration is to read Garcia-Marquez in Spanish.
