How I did it: I lived at home for a loooong time, and I have a great job. I stopped spending money on stupid, frivolous stuff and started stashing my money away. With home prices going down, it made sense for me to buy, rather than rent. My next step after having a decent savings account was to get in with a first-time home buyer program.
