I don’t get to see my brother as often as I would like b/c he’s locked down with the federal popo in Lompoc. His story is sad and amusing, depressing and optimistic, tedious and ultimately insightful. I want to write a book and share his life, my family’s life, with other people. While my brother’s story is uncommon for middle class white folks in the US, it is FAR too common for others with more pigment in their skin and less cash in their bank accounts. It is the sort of story that more people need to hear so that we can change some of our messed up policies and help make this country a better place for all of us to live in.
