Here’s what I did in 2006. I put together an excel spreadsheet and tried to pay at least $5 or MORE dollars over the amount owed every single month. The spreadsheet tracked what I paid off in terms of principal and what was owed totally and what was paid in interest. For the past few years as a single person I was able to deduct at least some of the interest paid – in 2006 since we got married, I doubt I’ll qualify for the interest deduction, but at least I’ve got the info if I want it. I’ll post what the principal paid off in 2006 was very soon, once I get the information from Wells Fargo (the loan servicer). It feels good to have paid a chunk off!

I got a B-job instead. But it’s worked out to about 30 hours a week on average, of work, so a bit more than part time and not yet full time, either. A great compromise and more $$ for us.
and a good one at that. In March 2006 I got the call for a temporary job in downtown Los Angeles which I took – I’m still here! And it’s December 29. Yay… it’s been great. Gotten lots of flexibility, a decent wage, and nice people to work with. It’s supported all my good and bad habits very nicely all year.
