I’m double-digging the garden bed. It takes about 1.5 hours to dig a single trench, and I would estimate that there are about 8 or 9 trenches’ worth of space in my marked out garden space. I’m about halfway done. It’s tiring to work more than a couple of hours at a time, and since it gets dark so early, I can’t work on it during the week. So it’s gone a little slow, but I’ve made steady progress.
Some parts of the soil has a thin layer of gravel near the surface (under the grass) and I keep finding larger stones, like those smooth river rock stones that people use to make gravel more interesting. So I have a bucket I throw these extra rock into. For the most part, I’m letting the gravel stay mixed into the soil; there’s not too much, especially once it’s mixed in.
I thought I’d spend more time working on it over my Thanksgiving vacation, but I had some extra contract work come in, so I spent much of my time earning money instead of working on the garden.
