I’ve been noting the remarkable thing on a calendar every day. Every day has been remarkable, in its way. Some not in very good ways – friend in hospital, three days of migraine – but other days delightful. It probably all evens out to a middling good average. Or so I hope.

I’ve been living in Tokyo since 1998 but due to laziness and bad study habits, my Japanese is only passable. I’ve got about 300 kanji under my belt now, but mastering the jouyou kanji will help me feel like I am actually capable of literacy.
That seems like a fair balance and a completely obtainable goal. I love to cook. I need to manage my time so that I have ingredients to work with and energy to enjoy the process.
