Eat a cookie.
Snickerdoodles are my favorites...

Unfortunately that’s one of the cookies we don’t make at my work! However we do make wonderful peanut butter cookies… ok, now I’m making myself hungry =)

knit a scarf
I love knitting

The first scarf I ever knitted isn’t anything special—just a solid blue scarf with a fridge. But it’s warm and cozy, and I’m very proud of it! I have two more that I’m in the process of knitting (an Irish Hiking Scarf in a beautiful shade of crimson for myself, and a blue and ivory striped one for my sister).

I need to knit more, it’s so meditative!

Go on a retreat
Absolutely Worth It

I was lucky enough to go on a couple short retreats a few years ago. It was asbolutely worth it to be away from the stress of everyday life and to be able to reflect on life and be introspective.

This is one goal that I hope to be able to repeat again!

Learn to play the flute
Amazing teachers help

I started learning to play the flute in the seventh grade. I took lessons from the mom of a friend of mine, and she was an excellent teacher. She was very kind and patient and really explained things well. This made all the difference in the world.

It’s been about twelve years that I’ve played, and I still enjoy it. It’s a wonderful instrument!

Join flickr
Very nicely executed site concept

Although I use other photo sites as well, I really enjoy the community over at Flickr. I don’t have a whole lot of pictures shared there, but I really enjoy the people and groups that are available. Definitely a site worth checking out!

go to the zoo
I love zoos!

When I was little, I have fond memories of going to the Oakland Zoo with my grandmother. As an adult I still love spending a warm day exploring the San Francisco Zoo. My best friend is a photographer, and we love trying to capture the animals on film (though I’m not as accomplished as he is, I have some pictures I’m proud of).

I even spent my 21st birthday at the zoo :)

Visit France
Graduation trip

I spent time in the south of France right after I graduated high school. We stayed in Nice and Montpellier and it was absolutely beautiful.

Unfortunately, we didn’t go to Paris. I suppose I have a reason to go back!

go to a Tool concert
Birthday Gift

These tickets were a birthday gift from a friend a few years ago. Almost everyone I knew was there. I enjoyed the show, but I wasn’t nearly as into their music as I am now. Hopefully I can go again as a bigger Tool fan!

go to college
I wish I could go back

Even though I didn’t end up pursuing a career that had to do with my major, I wouldn’t trade my college experience for anything. I met amazing friends, studied great literature, and really learned about myself. I am hoping to find a way to go back to school soon, even if it is classes at the local community college or adult school.

Never stop learning!

Get a tattoo
So long as they are meaningful...

I knew the exact image I wanted for four years before I finally decided that I was ready to get the tattoo. I’m glad I waited so long because it is a big decision. While butterflies are pretty cliche, this one harkens back to a comment an important teacher made to me many years ago. It is something really special to me.

The next day, I talked to my mom (she didn’t know yet) and she told me that she had a dream I got a tattoo in the exact spot where mine really is. Scary!

I’m tempted to get a second one because I finally have an image in mind of what I’d like. However, like the first one I plan on waiting at least a year to make sure that it’s really something I’d like to make permanent. It’s been several years, so I hope that I can find the artist who did my first one—he was fantastic!

See Tom Petty in concert
Pretty great show

I saw Tom Petty on a warm summer night at an outdoor venue, and had a blast. I don’t remember who the opening band was (in part because we got lost on the way there, and arrived right before the main event). I’m not sure that I would go a second time, but I’m very glad that I got to see them once!

Become a vegetarian
Eight Years

I was a vegetarian for about eight years and even though I am not anymore, I still cook vegetarian quite frequently (and I LOVE veggie corndogs!).

Before my vegetarianism, I was an incredibly picky eater. By cutting out meat, poultry, and seafood I really had to expand my horizons and try new things. Having more adventurous tastes has really been a blessing. My diet is so much more diverse than it ever was, and meat has a more appropriate place in my life (it’s not an everyday part of my meal plan).

Those eight years were completely worth it, and it may be something I consider again in the future.

bake a cake from scratch
Professional Baker

I had better think that this goal is worth it, since I bake cake from scratch every day at work! There is something so satisfying about creating something delicious out of basic ingredients. The key is to find the best ingredients that are available (and to use cake flour for most types of cakes).

It can be a challenge, since baking is based so much on chemistry, but I think that makes it all the more fun.

find an apartment
Hopefully I won't need to repeat this for a long time

Finding my current apartment was incredibly stressful, and I wasn’t sure I would find a place in a decent neighborhood in my price range before my lease expired on my last apartment. Luckily everything worked out, and I’m hoping to stay here for as long as possible!

write a short story.
For me, starting is easy

I’m definitely better at starting short stories than I am at ending them. In fact, I have a large pile of abandonded beginnings that I just couldn’t push through and make work. However I do have a few completed that aren’t too bad. Poetry is my writing of choice but I enjoy writing short fiction every now and again.

I’m particularly fond of the short-short . It’s such a challenge to make something short feel complete and thought-provoking.

go to a Metallica concert
Summer Sanitarium 2003

Even though the tickets were a little pricey, it was totally worth it to see Metallica live. They played many of my favorite songs and completely rocked. I’m especially glad that I got to experience the show with a couple of awesome people.

However, I would have prefered if they had left Limp Bizkit out of the lineup!

google myself
Short list, about half are me

I have a unique name, although I do have a second cousin who shares it with me. So, when I google myself I only get results for the two of us (which I think is great)!

I do this every once in a while to see what parts of my internet activity are being snagged by the search engine. I think I was the proudest when I discovered a college newspaper article that I had been quoted in was picked up by http://www.fairvote.org/ and archived there. That was pretty cool.

find a job i love
Glad I did it

Every once in a while, I’ll hear one of my someone make comments like “It’s just work, it’s never going to be fun”. It makes me wonder why these people don’t go out and find something more suited to their interests.

No job is going to be perfect, of course. Mine is very challenging, but I think that’s what I love the most. I learn something every day. Sure, it has it’s stressful or frustrating moments but I love it and I want to be there.

It’s just not worth it to me to spend 40 hours a week doing something I hate, even if I did make more money than I do now.

see system of a down in concert
Amazing Live

There aren’t a lot of bands that I would pay the high prices to see live, but this one was completely worth it and I look forward to doing it again. It was pretty amazing luck that I got to go at all. I didn’t think I could go so I didn’t buy tickets, but then plans changed. My best friend called me up with an extra ticket at the last minute.

I can’t wait until they are out here again!

take a multivitamin every day (read all 2 entries…)
Out of practice

I’ve fallen out of the habit of taking my vitamins daily, and I can definitely tell the difference. It’s time to start doing this and keep with it!
