so. my tattoos are my way of marking achievements/accomplishments and a reminder that i still have a lot of work to do. i rode my first century then a double century ride a couple of weeks later. as a way to commemorate this physical achievement i decided to get a tattoo of an abstract bicycle. i have a friend named mel who is a great artist so i emailed her a pic of my bicycle and now i’m waiting for her to get back to me with a design. i cant wait.

so i did the century. it was a lot of fun. the people hosting the ride definitely had things set up the right way. the stops were every 25 miles and i made sure to stop at each stop to hydrate and get a little food.
i tried to keep up with the fast riders in the beginning then realized that it wasnt a race. so i slowed down and got in a group that was at my ability level. we finished the ride in 6 and a half hours with actual riding time of 5:23. that averages out to 17.6 miles per hour. it was a half mile an hour faster than i had hoped to average and 37 minutes faster.
i ended up with a strained hip flexor in my left leg thats kinda kept me sidelined for the last two weeks (i really dont want to admit i’ve been lazy) but aside from that little issue i felt great after the ride. oh yeah. my ass was hurting from about mile 65 on. so…. all i can say is if you want to do it. then do it. you won’t regret it.
