disciple someone else
Pass on the good gifts you've been given 1 month ago

I heard a pretty incredible story over Christmas Break at a conference. It was about Sammy Davis Jr., who even on his deathbed did his best to pass on what he knew to his apprentice. In a sickly state he arose from his bed and did a tap dance for him. That’s how passionately he wanted to pass on what he knew to someone else.

I feel like if I had the opportunity to be discipled earlier, I would have avoided some pitfalls that I was silly enough to let myself encounter. Now, my friend Rachel has asked to disciple me, and every week we meet and talk about a section of the book of Romans. She mentors me and helps me grow in my understanding a lot! It’s also good just being able to talk about the stuff that’s going on in my life and how to deal with it best, and just learning to depend on God more than myself on a more consistent basis.

I hope one day to feel ready to be that influence for someone else.

live by the seat of my pants!
Untitled 7 months ago

I guess what I mean by “live by the seat of my pants” is to remember that life is unexpected and short, and that trying to make it too stable and safe will not only inevitably backfire, but also rob me of some of the pleasures of just going with the flow. I don’t want to be married to money, a big house, the same job, and the same life. God changes lives in an instant, through events that we can never expect. Living out this goal would involve using my money for causes greater than myself, try new things constantly, spontaneously pick up and do something different when necessary, and not let the change in the winds blow me under and make me upset. Rather, just getting by however I can will help me increase my trust in the Lord and live genuinely, all the time.

volunteer regularly this summer
Untitled 7 months ago

My plan to use my time at home this summer also is to volunteer at a homeless kitchen in my town regularly. The Daily Bread is a place that cooks up thousands of plates of food for people in Orlando, and I’m way excited to work there again. I’ve helped out before through my church youth group and enjoyed it a whole lot. Hopefully I can make some friends while I’m there!
