For all of you adult brace-wearers or those that are considering it, you should have a look at www.archwired.com. It’s a wonderful source of information and it also has a message board – and it’s all directed at adults! It’s helped me a lot in being prepared to have my braces on and I’ve received so much encouragement that I haven’t chickened out yet ;)

I was thinking earlier today about being in my 20’s – I have eight more years and it seems like a lifetime. However I know that tomorrow I’ll be 30 and wondering where the time went. I’ve taken up this goal hoping to give myself some perspective and remember to not let it slip by.
Some things I would like to accomplish in my 20’s: travel, get married, decide what I really want to be when I grow up (maybe go back to school?), be a more confident me.

2. http://www.dannygregory.com and by extentsion http://www.edmsuperblog.co.uk – Danny Gregory is an amazingly talented artist and he inspired the Everyday Matters Super Blog; a group of artists who post almost (if not) daily artwork in their own blogs. Lovely!

Z calling me “baby”. I can’t pinpoint why exactly… maybe because for the last 3 years we’ve used terms such as “babe” and “honey” so something different feels refreshing and more endearing. Either way, I feel so loved.

I’m thinking of starting a team for this goal with people that are soon to get braces or have just got them (I actually would have started it already but I can’t figure out how!). Is anyone interested? I just thought it would be fun to share our experiences, pain and joy, progress, and pictures over the next couple years.
I have my consultation tomorrow – I’m so excited!

I did this today! I knew no one would go with me to see the Sex and the City movie so I treated myself and it was so much fun. I laughed, I cried, I ate my m&ms and drank my bottled water that I smuggled into the theatre in my purse (yes, I’m just that cheap) and I loved every minute of it! I may have to make this a regular Sunday date with myself.

12) Waking up

Last night I locked my bedroom door because I heard noises. I was so glad to unlock it this morning and not find a stranger in my kitchen.

Well I had my first visit today! The doctor is very enthusiastic about it and was assuring me that this is one of the best things I can do for myself. He did a quick exam and then I had x-rays and molds done. My next appointment is June 2 at which point the doctor will tell me exactly what my treatment will be and how much it will cost. Then, from my understanding, I will schedule for my extractions (2-4!) and I can finally get this underway!

Not only did I dig out my dear moley, I made my first spread in it too! I’m not brave enough to post it here but I’m very satisfied with this small start.

The jitters
So my initial exam is in 2 days and I’m starting to get a little nervy! I read lots of entries from others on this goal and some of them mentioned extraction – something I hadn’t thought about! I haven’t had my wisdom teeth removed and my mouth is very crowded. Ack!

This is a fun goal, and an appropriate one now that summer is approaching. In total I have three dresses: 1 very formal one that I hope I will get to wear at least once, one casual springy one that I bought for and wore to a wedding last summer, and one hip “night on the town” sort of dress that I bought for a dinner but never actually got to wear. So my goal is two-fold. The first part is to find an occasion to wear each of these dresses, and the second to find more dresses that I can wear on a regular basis.
For everyone else with this goal I have a question. Do skirts count?

Any Alaskan knows when you hear the Sand Hill Cranes summer is on the way. Any Alaskan also knows summers here are the best!

This has been in the works since last August. It’s been in my brain for 4 years now, but that’s another story. Last August my position switched to full-time which meant I was eligible for health insurance. I looked at my plan and saw that it would cover 50% of braces, plus I could put up to $200 in my Flexible Spending Account. Bingo! Come January I was all signed up for my insurance and so I got my dental work done. I scheduled my first orthodontist appointment in April and they told me I had to contact my insurance to be sure of my benefits. After much frustration on the phone I finally got through to my insurance on the morning of my appointment and the foreigner on the other end pointed out that the 50% coverage was for people 19 and under. There is no coverage for anyone over that age limit. So, stressed and pissed I called to cancel my orthodontist appointment. After allowing myself to calm down and think rationally I realized I still had the $2000 in my FSA account that would just be wasted unless I used it for something big. So I scheduled another appointment, this time for May 1st. On May 1st I showed up in the office and they told me I had no appointment. Gah! So I was rescheduled again and now have an appointment for May 19th, which I called to verify today. This is finally going to happen and I couldn’t be happier!

Still reading!

Ahhh, it’s been a long time. I have been reading though! I read the Troy trilogy by David Gemmell (A++). Now I’m reading The Lady Elizabeth by Alison Weir. Very captivating so far.

A big Step 2!

Z is selling his car so he decided it’s now or never. After lots of whining and pleading with him to let me off the hook he finally got me behind the wheel… and I did it! I drove up and down our road for about 2 hours and only stalled 3 times! Now that his car is gone and I drive an automatic every day I know I’ll forget my lesson but hearing him tell everyone how proud he is of me is so worth it.

I just heard the news. I’m not sure how I feel about this, aside from the fact that if the movie is half as heart-wrenching as the book I will buy it and watch it every night.
