join a gym
Untitled

I joined a local gym about six weeks ago, and have been there about 5 days a week since then. Right now I’m doing a lot of cardio—mostly the recumbent stationary bike because I’m up to seven miles at a time on it (I can’t go that far on the standard bike yet; it’s much harder on my back and knees), and pretty soon I’m going to try trying a jog on the treadmill, as opposed to just walking.

And each day after I get in my 30+ minutes of cardio, I’ve been doing a lot of strength training as well. I’ve only just started with my arms because I have very little upper body strength right now, but I’m working on it. And my legs are a force to be reckoned with. My upper thighs are of steel! Now if only they had some machines that’d work my abs…

Anyway, in six weeks I’ve already dropped several inches all over and THREE belt notches. Not too much weight lost yet because I’ve been building muscle, but I’m careful not to focus too much on the scale but just on the fit of my clothes and the fact that I no longer get winded walking up the stairs. I’m kicking ass and feeling really good about it.

find a hobby
Untitled

Nothing will make you feel more boring than when someone asks you what your hobbies are and you don’t have an answer. How dull! I have interests but so far nothing interests me enough to make it a full-fledged hobby. I guess I need to try more new things and see what fits.

get sinus surgery
Untitled

I just had nasal-septal reconstruction (straightening-out of my septum) and left-side FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery) a week ago. I’d had a lingering sinus infection since before Thanksgiving and here it was almost Easter by the time I had the surgery. I’ve always been prone to sinus infections, and the dust and fumes in the air where I work combined with the scarring and created polyps, which is why I couldn’t get better. I’m out of work for 3 weeks recovering, and while it’s not the happiest recovery, I can already breathe so much better. I feel it was worth it. We’ll see how I feel a few months from now!
