days off are a thing of the past! 2 weeks ago

I will not have another one for several months….so this goal is being given up until I actually have something constructive to do with it…

quit complaining about work, or find myself a new job! (read all 3 entries…)
Ya know... 2 weeks ago

for a minute there I thought I could give up this goal. Things at my job were going so well for such a long time that I was starting to think about staying here after college…

But then 2 people left for college and a third got fired, leaving only 4 people to run the whole hotel. I’m scheduled for overtime next week when I should just be working barely above 30 hours. I’m starting to stress out a little bit.

I thought all of this scheduling conflict crap was in the past and that I could move on and just enjoy work. I’m very sad that this is all starting to happen again. I don’t know if I can survive my last full time semester of college if I’m working full time too. I don’t want to have another stressful semester because I’m working full time when I shouldn’t be.

So I’ve decided that if this scheduling issue lasts for more than 3 weeks (which should give management enough time to find another person to help out around here and train them…), I’m going to start looking for something new. I’m not going to give myself another panic attack.

signs that college is working: 3 weeks ago

I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before, but I’m actually getting all of my textbooks from the library this semester. They were not in the library on my campus, but they will be within the next week thanks to inter-library loan. I just saved myself about $200!

School starts today! 3 weeks ago

The summer was too short…but I’m happy that classes are starting already – that means I’m just that much closer to being out!

On the agenda this semester:
- Sociological Theory
- Research in the Social Sciences
- Social Statistics
- English 1020 (yes, it is a freshman class in my senior year. I always get freaked out by it and stop going halfway through the semester. This will be my 6th go at it….so wish me luck!)

And good luck in you academic ventures this semester!

I went nuts on the house yesterday! 3 weeks ago

I cleaned the whole house top to bottom. I even got on my hands and knees to clean the floors. I vacuumed for the first time in a long time….and the whole thing only took me 7 hours! (I have a two bedroom apartment, by the way…)

I’m going to put the “keep the house clean” goal close to the top of the list now that I have a good place to start from…

Well, I did what I could with what I had. 3 weeks ago

It was a really short summer. The first day of class is today, so it’s pretty much done for me…I’m back to 80 hour weeks as of today.

But, with the summer as short as it was, it was still a good time! I’d say I made the most of what I could.

Here’s to it!

Untitled 4 weeks ago

As of today, I have 9 days left until classes start and summer is officially over. here’s what needs to happen in the next 9 days:

- Buy my school books.
- Buy a boat-load of pens!
- Clean the house before the craziness sets in…
- Buy a pair of red strapy shoes before I run out of time!
- Get into a better sleep pattern
- Finalize my work schedule

I’m sure I’ll think of more, but this will suffice for now…

Work out daily (read all 8 entries…)
Untitled 4 weeks ago

So, it’s been in the high 90’s all week. Today it got over 100, and the weather isn’t supposed to get below 90 for at least another week. Does anyone have any suggestions for at-home work out that doesn’t have an involved risk of heat stroke (note: I have no a/c…)?

Holy crap! 4 weeks ago

School starts in 10 days! I wish we weren’t starting so early, but they are closing campus the week of the DNC (since the Pepsi Center is across the street from campus…), so things are getting started early this year. I’m starting to get nervous….

But, this is my last full-time semester. Only 5 classes left, and I start 4 of those in 10 days. I’m excited to get it over with!

So, here I am... 2 months ago

On my technical Sunday. I feel as though I have accomplished next to nothing in the last two days. I spent an hour at the gym yesterday, and replaced the deadbolt on my front door today, but beyond that, I’ve been sitting around and sleeping my life away!

Next weekend, I’m going to have a good to-do list compiled so that I feel like I’m doing something with my time…

I asked a man for his phone number in a roundabout sort of way. I still haven’t heard back, but I’m sure I’ll find out whether he will give it to me or not in the somewhat near future….That’s a step, right?

With the help of my mother, I will be (as of tomorrow) about $350 ahead in finances, which is quite a bit since I’ve gotten used to being perpetually hand to mouth. There are so many things that I would really like to do with that money….but I won’t! Most of it is going to my savings account, save for money I may need for food and transportation…

Volunteering! 2 months ago

I got a call last week from a woman with the Obama campaign, and she invited me to volunteer. Since Friday, I have registered 7 people to vote! I’m pretty excited to help people become more involved with the government.

I think that it’s sad we live in a society where only 50% of the population votes. It makes me sad that more people don’t feel empowered to take government into their own hands…that’s why I’m volunteering.

On Saturday while I was at a family gathering, I mentioned that I was helping people register to vote and a neighbor said that she wanted to register. She’s 80 years old and had never really voted.

Also, my brother (who’s fairly anti-establishment and anti-convention) heard that I was doing this and decided to register to vote today for the first time ever at the age of 28.

I don’t want to get too exited when people register to vote (because I don’t want to scare people away, I guess…), but it makes me want to jump for joy that people who would normally not even care about being involved in the process are really excited to sign up.

So, I feel like I’m doing a good thing for my community and my country. If you can, I would suggest finding a local campaign to volunteer with.

I finished my first 5K! I did pretty decent too – about 37 minutes. Not bad considering I quit smoking in February!

I’m feeling good! My next one will be in August…
