Which happened over 6 months ago. We’re in limbo right now, waiting to do most of the planning for our Vegas destination wedding while we’re there in February. The biggest things for us are a gorgeous natural backdrop (hopefully Red Rock Canyon or similar) and great food. Mostly the food one though. ;)

How I did it: I simply applied, and went through the 4 hours of training. (3 hour classroom session and 1 hour mentoring). It is AMAZING. I never considered myself a dog person before because I'd never owned one, and there was no chance of us ever getting a dog because my mom considered them too messy and too much work, so we always had a cat instead.... but now.... I want a dog. I want a dog so bad that I have severe regrets ab… Read how I did it…
How I did it: We went to the local human society to waste an afternoon (We were looking to get a cat anyway) and walked around. We looked at all the different animals, played with some of the dogs and cats, but when we walked into one of the Cat Condo units, someone put Murdoch in my arms and I absolutely knew he was coming home with us. His motorboat purr was going the entire time he was in my arms, and he sat up on my shoulder just like m… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I had nothing to do, so I decided I would sign up for a cake decorating class. I got a lot of great tips, but I was disappointed in a lot of ways. For instance, our instructor only wanted us to use shortening-based frosting (gross!), and most of the other people in the class took themselves either way too seriously or were absolutely awful and couldn't follow basic directions. It was a good starting point, and necessary … Read how I did it…

My sister’s boyfriend from Aachen, German visited over Christmas. His English is very good considering he hasn’t taken any since high school (8 years; he’s my age) and he and she mostly speak German together. I’ve been meaning to start learning but I just haven’t had the time, priority, or means (both in method and money) to do it. And then I found Duolingo through a news article on an academic study that showed school-aged children who used Duolingo to learn a language improved their testing scores in that language by significantly more than students that learned another language the traditional classroom route. So I started using it. It is free, it is easy, and it is working for me. I can already have (very) basic conversations with my sister (about completely useless things, of course!). And its only been a week.
I don’t know if this is something that can ever be “done”. I think it will always be a work in progress, and something that there will always be more to learn about.
Now that the holidays are over (and most of the holiday baking is out of my freezer!) I can focus more on eating better. Baking aside, I think I did better this year than previously; I tried to fill my plate with veggies instead of potatoes, and only filled my plate once at each meal. We haven’t even opened any of the boxes of chocolates that we got, and I plan on sharing them with my coworkers and office buddies.
