More of a collection of short stories that range from the macabre to the just plain bizarre, but in a good way.Much like most collections of stories it’s hard to pick just one favorite, but I would choose”Calcutta,Lord of Nerves”-(a nifty tale of zombies),and
“Missing”-(which just reminds me of when i lived in New Orleans, working for the voodoo shops, watching tourists buying overpriced junk), anyways there is 12 stories in here and an introduction from Dan Simmons as well.
A decent read, i finished this on and off over the course of a day, it is a mere modest 225 pgs if you skip the intro, which is 27 pgs.

I read this once in my youth, at least 15 yrs ago. But, I had to give it a good home again when I had seen it there in the used bookstore…
The story revolves around Stanley Merriweather, your average guy with issues with his weight, hairloss, and the bane of loneliness.Until a fateful evening where he is bit by a werewolf. The story unfolds with the pro’s and con’s of his condition of lycanthropy. He becomes more physically fit, and seems to charm women left and right, unfortunately his father( a big game hunter) finds out and wants to hunt him, as well as a psychiatrist that he went to for help,is also a werewolf/vampire hunter as well.As well, Stanley cant commit to the thought of murder, even if he knows by his second full moon his wolf hunger will be too great to control….
An interesting read, even the second time around. And a quick one at that, this book is only about 220 pgs long.

Cool book.Read this in one in about 2 days.Story is a mix of humor and horror. The two protagonists,Earl(a vampire)and Duke(a werewolf)stumble apon a small town that is the center for most paranormal activities in the middle of no where. The story centers around an all night diner that is plaqued with zombies and other weird stuff, and they decide to find out why. This book doesnt take itself too seriously, which is often better.Earl and Duke both give insight to the pro’s and con’s of their (undead) lives. All the while appearing more human by their actions than the rest of the towns residents.Good for the laughs and not so much the scares.I’m hoping for a sequal…
about 287 pgs.(paperback)
