today i realized my potential. i am an artist, which i believe is a curse placed on me by some poor girl in 2nd grade whom i used to tease to tears. a curse because when you’re happy, i am ecstaticly overjoyed. a curse because when you’re hurt, i am torn to pieces. a curse because i don’t have the ability to balance the two- happiness and sadness- and don’t have utter control over them, but rather i’m a slave to these emotions. or am i?
today i realized my capacity. although i may be unable to fully dictate my compassion for my current well-being, i can and do influence. i want to paint the iraqi women to love. i want to sing the palestinian refugees to freedom. i want to inhale their pain and suffering, let the air cleanse our lungs, blood, heart, and soul, and exhale that purified passion, comforting certainty, and eternal peace that saves the world.
i am an artist. i am blessed.
