I was naive. I thought science would be an exciting field to go into, being on the cutting edge of discovery. Well what I’ve discovered in my 8 years of being a scientist, is that it’s actually very boring and endlessly repetative. Especially if you work for a government agency. Although that adds a little spice to things because you’re always having to beg for money, beg for new computers, beg for competent staff, beg for a carpet for your office. The job I do would seem to be one that requires me to be outside for long periods of time but I actually live at my desk. My computer is my bestest friend in the whole world. We don’t do field work because there’s..wait for it…no money! All the passion I had at the beginning has been squeezed out of me and has been replaced with boredom. SO, come June 2008, I will shake the dust from this place from my feet and seek my fortune elsewhere. I hope.
