After four introductory classes, I signed up for the full year kickboxing program at ZUMA gym. I’m completely in love with it, and look forward to each of my two per week classes.

How I did it: I trained for three months. I started out running three times week, two short runs and one long run. Every week or two, the long run would get a bit longer. It was a good stratetgy. Read how I did it…
I had a follow up appointment, two years after my surgery, on July 3 2009. The decision: I can have enhancement surgery done, via PRK.
The doctor would like me to wait at least 3 months, if not 6 to 12, to determine that my vision has stabilized. Once that’s been established, I would come in for two seperate sessions, one for each eye. He said that because the recovery period is longer with PRK, it’s easier to “carry on with every day business” by having only one eye done at a time.
The biggest positive from the appointment though was the fact that he waived the enhancement surgery fees—he said because my vision had been so poor beforehand and that he was committed to giving me 20/20 vision, that I would not have to pay for any further enhancements. So yay! That’s a relief. I don’t know when or if I’ll choose to get it done, but it’s nice to know that it IS an option.
The fall/winter guide for UVIC continuing education is coming out. Last year they offered a beginner’s Finnish class in the evenings. Hopefully they do the same this year, as I plan on signing up for it.
While my attempt at taking a French class failed miserably, I did enjoy learning Japanese from scratch and therefore I think that method will be fine for learning Finnish. Fingers crossed!
