I got this done yesterday, at least the first purge through! I have been putting this off as it just seemed like too much! I tackled it with my friend Kathy’s help yesterday and powered through. I have about 8 boxes to go to Goodwill today and took about the same amount yesterday morning too! I am so very excited about the progress I am making in the house, getting rid of a bunch of stuff I have been holding onto out of some misguided sense of need. I am working hard to not bring anything more into the house either. It is SUCH a freeing feeling to have this done as best as I can do it right now without more space to store the things that have a purpose and I need to keep or are projects in progress.

How I did it: I didn't complete this goal before I had to hand off the torch due to computer and software issues. I do feel really good about what I did accomplish with it though. Read how I did it…
How I did it: See below under tips. Set aside time each day at a set time. Find what works for you (active meditation works best for me.) Try several different styles until you find what works...yours may be an amalgamation of things. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I set a specific time every day and just made myself sit down and write no matter what came out. It wasn't about creating the great American novel, it was about getting my thoughts and life down and out of my head so that I could move forward from the previous things and be open to experiencing new things. I LOVE having a room in my home that is my library. As many books as I have it was a necessity! I painted and decorated it in a way that is soothing to me and makes me want to spend a lot of time in there. It is also the computer room/office and that part I am not always psyched about but economy of space and all that…
I took the closet doors off and made the closet into an alcove for my desk and computer. I have designed some shelves that I want to build in the alcove in the coming months as well. The library is one of the rooms that has continued to evolve the most in the house over the years.
I became a professional organizer a few years back and made my home the first target! It is wonderful to have a more open, de-cluttered home. I feel so much better with my home this way. It is hard to keep it like this with my husband around as he does not seem to have any clue how to put things back where he gets them from. The older I get the more of a minimalist I am becoming and I am TOTALLY ok with that! I periodically go through and raze the stuff I have accumulated (about once a year) and donate to a local battered women’s shelter. They take almost everything as they are trying to help the women set up from scratch…many of them leave their homes with only the clothes on their backs. It helps me out to purge once a year and it helps the shelter as well…win/win situation!
