How I did it: Read lots of books. Conducted interviews and oral histories. Got involved with the community. Learned the language, culture and history of China and of the Chinese in America. Read how I did it…

and still I buy more, with the most sincere intentions of reading them!
unread books i’ve had for years: the Fountainhead, Moby Dick, Snow Falling on the Cedars, Emily Dickinson poems, Emma, the Odyssey, Sushi for Beginners, Fishbowl, an Art History book, the Bible, Zen Flesh Zen Bones, etc.
unread books purchased in past few months: complete collection of Jane Austen novels, Fortress of Solitude, Wild Swans, two Amy Tan books
My knitting skills are very limited. A ribbed scarf is as fancy as it gets.
I go through phases with knitting. I’ll get really into it for a week or two and then drop it for a year. Last month, I bought an interchangeable circular needle kit but grew bored (and frustrated…circular needles are strange!) again within a few days and returned it.
