ride my bike regularly
Thanks, but . . .

I thank you for the cheer, but this is a goal that will have to wait for awhile. I live in upstate NY and we have gotten over 70 inches of snow in December and do not seem to be letting up in January—3 inches alone yesterday.

Entered an online reading challenge

I entered the “2011 To Be Read Pile Challenge”: http://organizer.wordpress.com/to-be-read-pile-2011/ This commits me to reading 12 books within the next year—books that have been laying around my house for at least a year.

I picked 12 literary fiction books—see my list here. Once I’m done with a book I have to post a review.

I’m starting with “The Fortress Of Solitude” by Jonathan Lethem.

visit all 10 Canadian provinces
Untitled

So far—just Ontario and Quebec. I’ll never get to the three territories, but the others seem plausible. The Maritimes will probably be first, just due to proximity to the US east coast.

Love Canada—we vacation there every summer and I grew up on stories of my grandfather’s boyhood in Alberta at turn of the 20th century. Time to wander around.

I was born on the same date as my Grandpa and I am named after him. On
my first day of school in 1966 he gave me this photo. The inscription
on the back reads: My father took this picture of “Prince” and me on
the way to school. Buffalo Ranch, Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada. May
1909 11 years old.

read The Story of Civilization by Will & Ariel Durant
"Read a book, how tough is that?"

Not so fast . . . The Story of Civilization is an 11-volume set, four million words over 10,000 pages!

I own four volumes so I can start on this goal—like everything else, it’s about time management and enthusiasm.

I’ve been hooked on their writing since a high school teacher used his 1953 book “The Pleasures of Philosophy” in class. Since the books were falling apart, he gave away the copies at the end off the year to interested students. I still have mine—32 years later.

visit all 50 states
17 down, 33 to go.

visited 17 states (34%)Create your own visited map of The United States

A goal of mine is to visit all 50 states. I’m going to make it a bit harder and only check off the ones that I spend some time in—not just hit and runs on the way somewhere else! That means return trips to Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Indiana, Wyoming, Delaware, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Most likely places I’ll hit soon: Delaware, West Virginia, Georgia and Florida—completing the entire East Coast.
