After many years of bad knees, I had knee replacement surgery in July 2009. I’m walking ok, but need to be able to walk longer and faster. I want to be riding a bike by next spring.

How I did it: I come from an Italian family, so that was very helpful. However, my parents were not big on salads and healthy vegetables as they could have been. I spent years eating too much fast food and takeout. I grew larger and larger and was more and more tired. In November, 2008, I had weight loss surgery. I've lost nearly 110lbs. I also had knee surgery which allowed me to become more active. I've been forced into eating a lot more healthy as a… Read how I did it…
How I did it: After years of obesity, I felt miserable. Although I was always active, I couldn't do most of the things that people did. Also, my knees had deteriorated badly. The world is full of writers. I want to be one of them. I need to write every day. I don’t do that. Need to start NOW!
This may seem minor to a lot of people. To me, this is a biggie. In November, 2008, I underwent weight loss surgery. To date – November 2009 (Not quite a year), I’ve lost nearly 110lbs. In July, 2009, I underwent double knee replacement surgery. After 2 1/2 months of physical therapy, I am now able to walk normally and do so many things I couldn’t do before. I’m walking well although my knees still rebel when I try to walk too much or too fast. A couple of weeks ago, I climbed an observation tower during a visit to Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware. In the past, I couldn’t walk more than a few feet without pain. After my physical therapy, I decided to continue and joined our local YMCA. I do a regular circuit of weights and also cardio. Every time I walk, I can walk a little further and faster. Next May I’ll turn 63. I want to make that walk.
