Finally Formed My Statement 17 months ago

I know that personal mission statements change as a person’s values, experiences, and life changes, but I have finally created a mission that means something to me at this point in my life. I just needed to refine the statement that I created six months ago by adding a few other things that I value in my life.

My purpose of each day for the rest of my life is to dedicate myself to a life of continuous scholarly and worldly pursuits, development of new skills, improvement of ethical character, development of physical wellness and abilities, and honoring my family, friends, and eternal beloved with love, compassion, and support.

My next step is to repeat this mission to myself like the pledge of allegiance as a continuous reminder.

Volunteer
Library Volunteer 18 months ago

This is a special reason for volunteering. I wanted to get started in my career and it was taking me so long to find a job after college. I really wanted to get a job in a library and for a while I was really stubborn about volunteering at a library first because I had already earned my bachelors degree. In fact I was really irritated that I was hardly even considered until I had some experience. The job that I was in at the time was horrible. I hated so much and I wanted out of it so bad. Finally after seeing one of my friends get a job at our county library, I swallowed my pride and began to volunteer. I was so against it at first because I didn’t want to add work to my already horrible work days. I realized though that if this was what I really wanted I had to stop complaining and just do it. When I started to volunteer I felt so good. Even when I had a completely terrible day at work, volunteering made me feel so much better. The work was simple and mindless, but it was the greatest therapy for me. I kept it up and finally I got a job in a library. I also got accepted into library school as well.

I encourage anyone to volunteer for whatever the reason because it is helpful to both the people you are working for and it makes you feel so good inside even if you are tired and especially if you had a bad day.

Starting the First Book on My Shelf 18 months ago

A couple of weeks ago I picked up the first book on my shelf and started to read it. I cant believe it took me so long to read this book. I am enjoying it so much, but it is taking me such a long time to finish it. The book is called Sophie’s World. It is about a girl who has taken up a correspondence philosophy course by a mysterious person. Since it is talking about some deep stuff I can only read it when my mind is fresh, which rules out the evenings.

travel by train
How I Started Riding the Train 18 months ago

I actually hate the reason why I started riding trains. My mother did not want me to drive on the freeway for various insane reasons and I wanted to attend a university in a city that was 60 miles away. Since I really wanted to go to this particular school I felt like I needed to do something to satisfy her fears of me going out into the world. So I suggested the train. It is actually pretty exciting the first time you ride a train. I never thought I would use such transportation, plus in the area I live I didn’t think that so many people used the train as a source of commute. Now the train is part of life weekly at least. You meet a lot of new people. I actually met the love of my life on the train. He is a conductor. If you really know how to connect with other sources of transportation it is really quite convenient in getting to places you want to go. Although there are times when the train seems to have a bad week because of slow orders, traffic on the tracks and accidents, which really delays people who are trying to get to work. The other thing is that a lot of time is wasted just traveling. I think about all the things that I could be doing beside the commute. The upside is at least you are not the driver and you can catch up on homework or reading.

Formulating My Statement 1 year ago

I did a little research on creating mission statements and sought out some examples. This mission statement will specifically as a life mission rather than career related. I will later develop a career related mission statement for portfolio purposes.

It was easier to formulate my mission after seeing a list of values that could easily be implemented into my statement. So far my statement is as follows:

My purpose of each day for the rest of my life is to dedicate myself to a life of scholarly pursuit, continuous improvement of ethical character, development of physical wellness and abilities, and honoring my family and eternal beloved with love, compassion, and support.

It doesn’t sound right quite yet but for me it is a good start and is still very inspirational to the ideas that I hold dear.

drink 8 glasses of water a day (read all 2 entries…)
Week 1 Day 1 1 year ago

I woke up this morning knowing that this was the most achievable goal on my list. Not really follwing my intended format I drank a glass after I woke up and for the heck of it drank a glass with my breakfast. I already felt like a hassle. For one I was drinking tap water which depending on the amount of vitamins that come out of you faucet and the right temperature it leaves your tongue exhausted. Especially if you are not used to drinking a full glass of any type of drink in one sitting.
