So I thought it would be a good day to start training. I got ready, did some stretching and took an easy 1 mile jog up to a track near my house. My plan was to do 6X400 Pace Intervals at 2:00 each. I made it through the first 2 and on my recovery jog from the second I realized it is just way too hot for this today. It was 95 degrees and sunny with 45% humidity. Not to mention being on a black track probably adds a few degrees. Anyway, I’ll stop complaining now and look at reworking my schedule tommorow. On a positive note the 2:00 intervals were tough but doable so I feel more confident about my chances.

I am typing in the mid 40s without looking at the keyboard but my error rate is around 20%. I imagine it will take another month or so to complete this goal. One thing that would help is forcing myself to type correctly when not specifically practicing. Any time I sit down to write an email or anything else I quicly revert to my hunt & peck style out of habit. If I could break this habit I think I could reach this goal more quickly, not to mention actually reap the benefits of reaching this goal.
I am shooting to do this in the Run Wild 5K on Sept 10. As of this past sunday I ran a mile in about 8:45. I might be able to do this fatser as this was the last in my run 100 miles month and I was a bit worn. The last 5K race I ran was few years ago and I believe my time was a little over 31:00 minutes. That makes it seem unlikely I can run a 25 minute 5K in six weeks but if I can sustain an 8:30 pace I would make it. I have put together a training plan based on the Ultimate 5-K plan on the Runner’s World site. In any case I feel that if i don’t put a stretch goal here I will sell myself short.
