In the last year I’ve lived in four countries. For two of those moves I’ve gone because I’ve been attracted to someone.
Whether it works out in the end of not is not really the goal, it’s knowing that you took the chance in the first place.

My degree and a large amount of my past work experiences are as a programmer / web developer. It is easy for potential employers to see me as “just technical”. I’m trying to work out the best way of bringing to their attention the amazing things I’m capable of even though I don’t have a related degree / experience.
Part of this experience is about me changing the way I identify / introduce myself.
I feel so relieved to be pinning down my field of interest. Now I just need to find work that allows me to research and implement this stuff!
I’ve realised that I want to research / work in the development of strong, sustainable local communities using social networks, web and mobile technologies and urban design practice (particularly new urbanism).
I’ve learnt that there’s a reason why vegetables are grown in rows and in patches, they’re WAY easier to water. This year I innocently planted my cucurbits at the other end of the garden in an old fish pond and they’ve suffered from a lack of water as a result!
Next year I’ll be enlarging my current vegie patch and will contain all the plantings to that space.
The watering situation is particularly important in South Australia as we have Level 3 restrictions which allow for the use of drippers once a week, but limit everyday watering to hand watering from buckets and watering cans.
Also, there are certain things that will grow readily from seed and which I’ll continue to buy seeds for, some things like tomatoes I’ll still be more likely to buy as seedlings. Luckily the local farmers market has a good seedling provider.
I’ve also learnt to LOVE kale. It last throughout most of the year, and is quite versatile and beautiful in the garden.
I googled an old school friend on the off chance that she had left traces across the internet. With one potential email address as a result, I emailed her and two days later I got a reply and the opportunity to visit her in London in a couple of months time!
i’m not sure what the recipe title is in Donna Hay’s Off the Shelf cookbook, but this recipe is simple, tasty and appears to be quite impressive.
In reality it takes about 25 minutes to prepare.
Well, not working full time, having a relationship breakup and living in a foreign country with awesome libraries does help with reading more.
I’m currently reading Simone de Beauvoir’s All Men are Mortal.
Stop working in an industry when you’re in front of a computer all the time. ;-)
I still would like to make more changes to battlecat.net, but it is different from the old version. And that’s something.
So I give up. My life will happen to me. I don’t need to figure it out.
Staying in Finland during summer has been great for my Wake up Earlier every day “thing”. Almost 22 hours of sunlight a day make for very early mornings.
Let’s just hope that the habit stays strong when I move away or autumn draws close.
I woke up early and rode home from my boyfriend’s house before going to work yesterday. It was great!
And this morning I woke up from a dream at 7am and couldn’t get back to sleep. I don’t even have to go to work today, so hopefully my body’s finally beginning to desire this waking early thing.
http://www.43things.com/person/zooey53 zooey 53 sent me a message. It was so exciting, social software and socialising!
Why don’t YOU send me a message?
well, this conference has been and gone – but i did spend my money on my powerbook instead. maybe next year’s women in games conference will be in a place a little more exciting than dundee?
This story that I wrote is the first piece of fiction writing that I’m actually going to show other people and self publish in a zine. I need to go back and do another edit and maybe add some more stuff in if I feel it needs it.
I have a great sense of satisfaction about finishing the story and about having shown it to some friends.
It took about a month for me to get through it, but I’ve finished reading the first Harry Potter book in French. I chose to refer to a dictionary only when an unknown word came up frequently, or when I was very confused by the surrounding text.
My confidence in my French ability is so much better. I’m much better at working out meanings of new vocabulary as long as the words are in context!
Of course now I have to get better at comprehending spoken French.
Perhaps I should get the second Harry Potter book on tape in French?
I started writing a short story the other day, and I want to finish it, edit it, and print it up in time for my friends Zine fair.
It’s going to be a very short story. But I’m happy with it.
