How I did it: I talked to a buddy about going to Kenya to teach singing and songwriting. He helped make it happen. I went and had an amazing experience. I taught girls at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy what it takes to be good singers, basic technique. Then basic songwriting and a little project. They were able to write a song within a day. At the end of the two weeks, we had a performance. Five songs. Rock! I'll probably be going back again next year... Read how I did it…
How I did it: We have been playing together, some of us, in some way for over 2 years. Our bassist was the last to join 7 months ago. Since I insisted on a democratic process, the writing and refining took a while. And personal situations also played a big part in the timeline.However, to be able to play for your Mom songs you thought may never see the light of day, that is a wonderful thing. How I did it: Stopped thinking about it and went on my lunch break. Had to be done. Didn't study, just did it. It was a renewal anyway. But as long as you know common sense, you can figure out the answers. The hard part now will be managing the shifters. Read how I did it…
