I just got the No Plot, No Problem book, but I must say that not having a plot is the least of my worries. boy, have i ever got a plot. i’ve got characters, i’ve got atmosphere, i’ve got a beginning, a middle, an end, and even a Chilling Twist. I have three computers and two purple pens. Now all I need is time to write the darned thing.

Oh, and self-discipline. Ha!

become a medical transcriptionist.
Become a medical transcriptionist and work at home. 4 years ago

Lest you think I have lost my marbles, let me say at the outset that I have been thinking about this idea for 20 years. Twenty years ago, I met someone who was doing this, but I felt I certainly could do something more fabulous than sit around typing tediously detailed reports of nauseating medical procedures. Which was my way of saying to myself, “You don’t have the patience to write a grocery list, nor the self-discipline to stick to it when you write one, so how could you possibly manage a home business working with subpoenable medicolegal documents?”

I still wonder all those things, but I still haven’t done anything fabulous with my life, other than raising my 16-year-old son, of course, soooo now that he’s a junior in high school, it seems like a good time to take an inventory of my paltry skills. (My resume is absolutely pathetic.) I’m a pretty good editor, I type 70 wpm, and am a pretty good speller. And the really horrible truth is, I am fascinated by detailed reports of nauseating medical procedures. Undeterred by the fact that there is apparently no brick-and-mortar school in my entire STATE where a person can study medical transcription, I am investigating online schools. What could be more appealing than studying at home to eventually get a job where you work at home? I’m looking into M-Tec. It costs a lot more than other schools, which was my first clue that it might be better. I’ll keep you posted. Wish me luck.

finish more knitting projects
Finish Stuff. 4 years ago

Is there anything more fun than starting a new knitting project? Yes—starting ANOTHER new knitting project. Single Sock Syndrome is especially bad. I am finishing a sock this afternoon, if it kills me, and hereby pledge to cast on (AND FINISH) the second one before I dive into that next (delicious, squishy, delightfully new and full of promise) ball of self-patterning yarn.

Raising my right hand and promising to post a picture of TWO socks, I remain,

Jane in MA
