I’ve contacted Joshua Davis a number of times. The first in 2000/2001 on dreamless thanking him for both the site and him sharing his knowledge. The most recent time was over a year ago, I saw he’d created hype and I sent him and email saying thank you.
Joshua Davis was, to put it simply, the inspiration for me to become both a good designer & a great programmer. While I’ve never spoken with him, he communicated so much simply with code & action. I remember being fresh out of Brooklyn spending hours pouring over his code. Anytime a new interview came out, I had to read it. Strange that I would be inspired by a man from my city, who I only found by living my city. lol.
That said, a few months ago I twit that one of my goals was to shake his hand, guess what? He replied. I had little idea that he would even notice, but he invited me to have cigars with him. Will it happen, yes. Before I leave New York, I’m looking forward to smoking a cigar with both the only person in the world I’d be star stuck to meet: Joshua Davis. :)
I had the bright idea to go back to the boys facility I grew up in to work, thinking this would allow me to give back. Easier said than done, so I’m marking this as a good idea, and focusing on the boys I’m already helping via the boxing program I’ve started.
To the boys of Children’s Village, go to the main office, read the walls. Then go out and live your life.
Sid
