How I did it: Ever heard of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short)? The challenge is to write a novel of 50,000 words in 30 days. I wrote a mystery novel that I'm not particularly proud of. In fact, I wouldn't let anyone read it-- not even my husband. But the experience showed me that I can do it. How I did it: I spent months researching art nouveau. Finally, I printed out a few paintings I found online. One showed the type of hair I wanted my mermaid to have, another was the right kind of face, another was the tail. I went to a tattoo expo and looked at the books of lots of tattoo artists before I chose Paula, who actually knew what art nouveau was.
