Paris lives up to all its hype, the dirty streets, the beautiful sights, the snotty waiters, the fashionable people, and the delicious food. It is all there. I recommend at least trying to speak French while you are there. If you do it well, they will tell you. If you do it badly, they will also tell you. Parisians will always tell you what they really think if you ask them.

Germany is a great destination. So much history, and so much history destroyed. If you are learning German, the German will love you for it, and will encourage and help you. If you are not learning German, don’t worry; plenty of people speak English there.

I finished translating the Introduction and the first chapter. The intro was a breeze, but the first chapter was written in a more colloquial style and put my talents to the test. I’m translating from German, and sentence structure in German is sometimes very different from English. In a few places, I found my self thinking: “I know what this means, but I cannot for the life of me find a way to say it without completely changing the style of the story.” I press on.
