Well, it’s just about that time. My husband and I did fantastic paying off our old debt. We just returned from vacation last week as one final hurrah for us before we go drastically into debt with a mortgage! Might not sound like the smartest thing to go on vacation before you plan to buy a house, but we figured after we buy a house we won’t be able to afford to go on vacation for a long time. Plus, we paid for everything with money given to us for our wedding three years ago, so we didn’t add anything to our debt. We’ve been mortgage hunting this past week, and I think we finally found the best one for us. Now we just need to get pre-approved and the house hunting can begin!

How I did it: The first thing my husband and I did was to get pre-approved for a mortgage. We wanted to know exactly how much we had to play with before we rolled the dice. Next we found a realtor who knew a lot about the area we wanted to live in and he found some great homes for us to look at. We ended up seeing 18 homes after only venturing out twice. Once we saw the home we wanted, we put in an offer that night. From contacting the mortgage broker … Read how I did it…
My husband and I haven’t started actively looking yet, but we have promised ourselves we will be homeowners by the end of the year. I really want to spend this Christmas in a home we can call our own. And if we stay on track with paying off our bills, it should happen towards the end of the summer. I can’t wait.
