Ich glaube, wenn Sie mehr Sprache wissen wollen, Ihr Leben besser wird!
Hola! Well, it only took me 5 years to do it, so now I’m going onto the next hard language I want to learn, Chinese.
Some things you can do:
for nouns: put little german postit notes on everything in the house w/out translation. That way you’ll learn the word in german and not associate it (as much) with the english equivalent.
verbs: Make a picture book/ fairytale. You can either draw images or have an e-book (easier to find more images online). Make it interesting, and only in german. Read through it every week or so until you know as many verbs as you want. Here again, no translations in the book. You want to get away from translating in your head
REREAD THAT LAST SENTENCE ~ That is the cause for most people when it comes to dealing with grammar. The word order in German switches in ways that English doesn’t. Thinking of a translation will only make your mind try to conform to the English grammar. (Note* This technique should be used after you’ve spent a few months learning german)
One last tip: Look for cognates (words that sound similar w/ similar meanings in both languages i.e. Wasser – water). You’d be surprised, especially w/ the latin based words, how much german you already know ;).
Learning german has opened up a whole new world for me. Now that I speak it, I’ve noticed that more and more people speak it where I live (texas). THATS SURPRISING! I even got to teach a little girl English _. I hope that you all have as much fun as me with german, and pursue yet another language after you’ve become fluent in it. :)...And if you have questions, i’ll be here.
Ich werde Sie alle später sehen.
bis gleich
