OH MY, I decided to take German as a third language elective in college. Man was I tricked! It is very difficult, believe it or not. Believe that it may sound or read like English, but there is so much more to it (secrets, secrets). The grammar is MURDER, especially since my professor agrees that you cannot properly learn it without going to a German-speaking country for two years plus. Also, the language always changes in German, mainly spelling. It’s interesting but challenging!

The city is simply beautiful, but you have to meet the right people. PorteƱos were just as people had warned, rude, closed and to the point. Making friends is EXTREMELY difficult, even if you are very fluent in Spanish. It is done solely through networking and through others. It was definitely not as gay-friendly as they had mentioned either (not the next gay metropolis in Latin America, for sure!). Try Costa Rica!
I was nominated for Central/South America, Mozambique or Cape Verde for August of next year. I’ll be doing HIV/AIDS work and that’s my goal. This isn’t set in stone, as is nothing with the Peace Corp. I am just finishing up my medical clearance, well I thought I did this 3 weeks ago. Follow-up is a pain with re-doing any tests, blood/urine samples, giving more information with documentation, etc. As long as I can get a polio immunization from a bottle that isn’t cracked, I should be fine.
