I’ve wanted to learn how to knit socks for awhile now-I actually took a sock knitting class but I was totally lost- I don’t know how to purl- just knit- and the other students were experienced knitters so I was lost from the get go….. So still no socks. But the other day I was at the library and found a knitting group there- and they said they’d be happy to work with me and teach me to purl and then knit socks so maybe it will happen this time…..

I’m building a long bow from elm- a tree which used to grow outside my house but it got diseased and a neighbor cut it down for me and some friends and I are using it for bow staves. It has been a long slow process- I’m mostly using hand tools- I split the elm log by hand-that was tough going. Other than a bit with a band saw I’m using all hand-tools; a plane, drawknife, spokeshave and scraper so far. It looks like a bow already- I’m in the process of shaving the belly down so that it bends evenly and isn’t stiff in one place.
I’ve started taking Irish Step Dance Lessons- they are pretty casual- a local group offers them. I can do 2 routines so far and it’s a lot of fun. The other day I saw a demonstration of some really awesome irish step dance from a dance studio that’s an hour or so away from here- they were incredible! They were also really really young! I wish I could have started this when I was a kid but it wasn’t to be I guess- so am happy to just be able to do it at all.
I am hoping I will be able to continue with this as I have just messed up some tendons or something in my leg(not from dancing) and will need to do some PT on it- so will have to take a break from dance for a bit I suppose- will see how it goes I guess. Or if it doesn’t hurt too much, will just keep dancing perhaps…...
I have never actually seen “Riverdance”- my library is going to try to borrow a copy from another library. Will get even more inspired….
