i have a plot about 12’x7’ next to my back porch in the back of the house. i added cow manure and gardening soil to it , and will be watering it daily. now deciding what to plant and when

i have two boys, 8 and 11 who are just wonderful- doing well in school and socially, and involved in sports- i had to leave their dad 4 yrs ago. he is an addict with no desire for recovery in sight at the time. i hope that they will not feel a void in their lives that they will have to fill with drugs, or a need to numb any feelings. i hope it isnt too hereditary.
