I found a shop that sold sushi sheets and sticky rice, and learnt to make maki from a book.
I took a beginners Italian course at university and can now speak enough Italian that I feel I could get around on holiday. Obviously I will never really finish learning it, but I think I have had a firm enough push on my way.
I’m hopefully going to have internships in nonprofits this summer, but I’ll only consider that halfway towards this goal. What I really want is paid work with a nonprofit in a vaulable job.
I need to find a course. I think this is something that can wait for a few years, though, as I can’t see myself using it any time soon.
If I learn beginner’s level myself, take an intermediate course in England and an advanced course in Italy, I could be fluent in eighteen months!
I bought one of those self-wax kits and tried it at home. I had to get someone to help as I couldn’t be sure I’d done all of my legs – it’s hard to see the back. It worked really well for me. The “pain” was minimal (honestly!) and the hair came off properly. However, although the strips were billed as “reusable”, subsequent attempts resulted in patchy, uneven removal. Buying new strips all the time (or even getting it done professionally) would be far too expensive for me. I’ll definitely wax for special occasions, though.
I’ve had one lesson on a car simulator (which teaches you how to change gear and so on) and have a few more booked. I’ve filled in a applicaiton for a provisional licence. It’s all go!
I’ve finally worked it out. It’s harder with contact lenses (I think), not totally worth it. Eyeliner is a now a staple of my makeup bag/pot.
I picked a few styles of clothing that I know suit me:
- V-neck jumpers
- V-neck cardigans
- Blouses
- Polo shirts
- Boot cut trousers
- Knee-length skirts
... and only let myself buy those things. I picked colours too:
- Blue (various shades)
- Black (trousers/skirts only)
- White
- Red
- Purple
- Green
... to ensure things I bought would go with each other and would suit my skin tone. After a while I started automatically filtering clothes according to those criteria, and I also threw out a lot of my old stuff. I still have a little way to go in the blouse department, and I need two more pairs of shoes (white Converse and ballet pumps) but I’d say I’m pretty much there!
It wasn’t as exciting as I’d hoped. The food was good, but the atmosphere was a bit hurried and rubbish, and it was really expensive!
Did it about six weeks ago. It was definitely worth it. One of the best days ever. I’m meeting him again in a week. Be safe, though!
I can’t believe how long since this goal was started. A whole year ago. Well, I have kept in casual touch with some people and am going to a new school in september so I count this completed.
