Oh dear. I could just copy the last entry. Only the current situation isn’t that good.

I managed to keep my BMI at about 28.5 for a while, but eventually I lost it and started eating too much. Despite doing loads of exercise (over 100 miles a week of cycling) it just stayed at the same level. And then I went on holiday and it just shot back up.

For the last couple of months I’ve had a BMI of about 29-30. But now it’s time for a new effort. After a week of so I’ve dropped about 0.5 BMI points to be at about 29.5.

It should be possible to get it down to 25 by June. And this time I really mean it.

switch to a more ethical bank (read all 6 entries…)
Grovel a bit? 6 months ago

It turns out they groveled a lot. “You’ve been a customer for 12 years! How could you leave us?”.

The chap on the phone couldn’t quite understand I left them for a more ethical bank and kept going on about how they had environmentally friendly accounts. He didn’t quite get that even if they were environmentally friendly there was still the chance my money could be invested in something dubious.

So I resorted to something he would understand when I pointed out the interest rate on my new current account was higher than the interest rate on my old savings account. That seemed to shut him up.

Well, that’s that. Within a week all the old accounts will have been shut down and what money was left transfered to the new bank account.

I’m feeling a bit odd about it all now. They were a good bank on the whole and I never had a problem with them. But at least now I can sleep easy without worrying about whether my cash is being used to prop up arms manufacturers, animal experiments or dodgy regimes.

speak with a British accent for 24 hours
Cheat! 10 months ago

I can’t believe I’ve said I’ve done this. Of course I’ve done this thing – I’ve been doing it for the last 30 or so years.

Sort of. In that time my accent has gone from mild geordie/Durham towards Mancunian. It’s now a sort of generic northern english accent.

But they’re all english, in their ways. And it’s well worth doing. Especially in north america. You’d be surprised how much you can get away with if you’ve got a “cute” accent. :)
