Southern Magnolias

Anyway, spent the day with the kids. Emma in the morning messing around in the yard and Sammy in the afternoon. We went driving (technically speaking you might call it trespassing) in the woods and I found a bunch of “baby” Southern Magnolias. We dug up two dozen of them and planted the larger ones in the yard and the small ones in pots. Turns out that it’s getting down to 24 degrees tonight – the coldest it’s been in years. Nothing I can do about the ones in the yard, but I put the potted ones in the pool house with the rest of my nursery operation – mostly a bunch of camellias and azaleas that I’m trying to root so I can put them in the yard. It’s a great place to put my energy and I’m trying to create borders down the sides of my property. The way it is now I’ve got gorgeous St. Augustine growing right up to where the farmer plows his field – no visual border or transition at all, so that’s my goal. It’s about 1500 or 2000 feet on each side so that’s a lot of plants…
