16. taking way too many pictures of my cats being cute.
17. telling one more person about Pyometra, the uterine infection that can kill a dog or cat if they are not spayed.
18. classic volkswagen beetles! (the new “beetle” is really an insect)
19. grey goose vodka, tonic water and a lime wedge
20. the best breakfast on the planet: coffee with sugar and plain creamer, a plain bagel toasted with plain cream cheese. I said plain three times, but it makes mornings extraordinary!

encourage people to spay and neuter their pets, and adopt from animal shelters or rescue organizations
Penny Lane 2 years ago

There are so many excuses not to spay your pet. I don’t have the money, she’s never outside, and the best one: I’ll get around to it. Six hours ago, I came home to a sick cat, my precious Penny Lane. According to my fiance, she hissed at him when he tried to pet her, wouldn’t eat, and sat in her seat by the computer (Penny Lane and I like to sit side by side when I’m online) She had discharge coming from her privates. When I held her, I could feel she had no strength. Within minutes we were on our way to the emergency vets. I sat in the back seat with her, and she lay calmly in my arms, purring and looking up at me, eyes wide, as if she was asking what was happening to her. I kept telling her I was so sorry I hadn’t taken her to the vet before. The diagnosis was Pyometra, a Uterine infection. She didn’t have to come in contact with an infected cat, it could merely be an unbalance in her hormones. Cats and Dogs die from this because they are not spayed and I had no idea.
When I sat in the vet’s office, he told me it was going to be expensive. Before, $75-$100 for a Spay job was sooooo expensive. Now, I would give every dollar I had and go into debt. I didn’t care, just fix her, make her better.
While I’m writing this, Penny Lane has just gotten out of surgery and is recovering very well. 90% of pets that are detected early survive. It looks like Penny will be one of them.
It’s cheaper and easier to spay your pet right away. God only knows how many times I’ve picked Penny Lane up, kissed her sweet face and told her she’s the light of my little life. She’s my best little buddy. I made excuses and she’s paid for it. My other cat, Sylvia will be spayed early next week at the first opportunity. No pet of mine will EVER go through what Penny did because of stupid excuses.
Not enough people know that there are serious health risks involved with not spaying your pet. I had no idea. Now, I’m telling everyone. PLEASE do the same.

Cultivate a balcony garden
Balcony Garden 2 years ago

I started with a trip to WalMart and a packet of seeds about 3 weeks ago. My first sprout of impatien popped up today. I’ve never planted a seed and gotten a sprout, so this is pretty exciting. Impatient with my Impatiens, I bought some flowers to repot-Peonies, Pansies, and Annuals. The Annuals were chewed on by Penny Lane (cat), but other than that, they’re doing fair. I don’t get a lot of sunlight on my balcony (will be more diligent in selecting shade lovers) but I try to keep them in the sun.
