i tried the “right side of the brain” book ages ago which produced some surprisingly good drawings but didn’t feel like my own creation. Now I’ve started doing the schedules in Kimon Nicolaides’ “The Natural Way To Draw”. I’m only up to ‘gesture’ but that exercise is already amazing. I love the emphasis on feeling, dynamism, and energy. My scribbles aren’t taking shape yet as nicely as the incredible examples, but trying to express the the subject in a freeflowing way is a rewarding challenge.

Culling books

I haven’t started that many great books, but there are.. eh, about a dozen I really want to spend quality time on and finish.
I’d like to ditch the crap too, although i usually say that and only end up with about 4 books i can bear to lose.

Also agree that self awareness is first. that’s coming. i want to pursue that more consistently. pausing to get a reading of what’s stirring in my guts helps. good feeling or bad feeling? needs satisfied or not satisfied? what are my needs? what are the values underlying the needs?
it takes effort, but do i want this or not? when i tell myself ‘it doesn’t matter right now’ that’s the moment i lose it.
