I drove from Washington, DC to Los Angeles and then a few years later from DC to Cleveland. Both times I had a schedule to keep but I managed to stop in some interesting places: Graceland, Hope, ARkansas and Austin, TX. I don’t know that I’d do it again, I’m not crazy about sitting in a car for hours on end but driving across the country once in your life is an American rite of passage. I’d recommend it for anyone who has never left their town and their own narrow vantage point. There’s so much to see in the U.S., many different kinds of people to meet, different experiences to have that don’t occur unless you leave your own zone of comfort and venture out..out there.
