I’ve got the top nearly done (just need sashing, and I haven’t picked out the fabric for that) and approved by his mother (who’s a bit picky). He’ll be moving to a big boy bed soon, since he’s going to be a big brother in March. The back side is going to be appliqued with his initial, and then I have to put sashing on that as well, since the piece I have is only 2 yards and won’t cover the whole back. I also have to pick out a fabric for the binding, which will probably also be used as an accent on the pillows and maybe the bed skirt, which are also using the fabrics from the quilt (I’ve got 3 squares left over for the pillow(s), and a set of strips set aside for the skirt).
My local Sewing Center is holding a beginner quilting class this fall, and I plan on taking that to learn how to do the actual quilting aspect (plus how to better piece together fabrics, etc).

I even cut and ironed the bias binding. I just need to sew it on. Unfortunately, it all has to be done by hand (on a twin-size quilt) because my sewing machine currently can’t handle that much material or any type of quilting (I still need to buy the even-feed foot – this quilt was hand tied to avoid needing to quilt). Hand sewing makes my hands cramp up and takes so long, I just can’t motivate myself to do it! I know that once it’s done, it’ll look so much better (it’s currently all laid out on the bed in our spare bedroom, since we’re trying to sell our house, so it’s on display all the time), and I just need to push myself to get it done.

I’ve seen Rent live twice now. I loved it in the theatre too, but the live musical was definitely a better experience. As a musician, I really appreciated the music and was constantly surprised at where it went, chord progressions, things I wouldn’t have thought of, etc. The movie left out some of the fun little musical parts too, like the answering machine messages. Definitely an unforgetable experience, one of a kind.
