paying & saving...

The good thing now is with 2 jobs I’m able to make my min. payments no problem. This time last year I was really struggling with that. I saved some money from this pay period to help build my emergency fund. I do have a potential issue coming up with the dreaded Sallie Mae (please give advice if you can!):
I’m now on unemployment deferment, but I did find a full-time job about a month after my deferment was approved. So, now I’m not paying them, even though I am working (have 3 credit cards & 2 student loans I’m currently paying). I will be unemployed again in June b/c I’ll be heading overseas to volunteer for the summer. My question is when I reapply, what should I put about my period of working now? They ask for the last date of full-time unemployment which will fall during my current deferment. Should I just forego the deferment request? They kinda scare me & I’m afraid of getting caught in some back payment request thing…

one down...

Chase card is paid off, but they’ll still be hitting me with interest charges when my statement closes. I know have my remaining credit cards balances on 3 cards. I want to get some of that transfered to a 0% interest card, so I think I am going to keep the Chase card open for a little while longer, at least until I’m approved for another card. I really do not want it in my life though. I’m having a slightly tough day after checking my bank account…just got paid 3 days ago & after a huge student loan payment, payments on 2 credit cards, & my reg. bills, I have $17 until next paycheck. I did pick up a 2nd job, which I will start next week. The other thing is I really should start saving, but I’m not. I spent a good part of last year volunteering in a school in Nicaragua & would love to go back. I’ve been researching airfares & they have gone up a lot from this time last year. I would really just like to work as much as I can these next couple months, go back to Nica & volunteer, then come back & move. I’m really not happy where I’m at now (staying w/Mom in a city I’m not crazy about). Also, I finished my master’s last year yet I’m working at a job I could have easily gotten pre-grad school. I guess I should be happy to have found work at all though. I just hate how having all this debt makes me feel so trapped. I know exactly what I would do if I was free from debt, yet all my decisions seem to be based around if I can get enough money together to keep making my payments. It sucks, to say the least.

still looking...

So, it’s been about a month since the census first called me & in that time, I trained for 3 days & worked only one day on an actual census taking project. I received 2 smallish paychecks & was told more work will be available at the end of April. I’m still looking for a more reliable part-time gig. I’d actually be totally ok with just working in my local grocery store. I went & talked to a manager the other day & am hoping they call me back.
