Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

go camping with friends
I hope to do this in the next year!

I’ve gone camping with my family plenty of times, but I’m hoping that after I turn 21, we can arrange a big meet-up with friends out in the woods and have a “party” weekend. :) I love to camp and I love to be with friends!

get medical insurance (read all 2 entries…)

My momma was able to add me to her plan. Next goal is to get my fiancee on some insurance!

buy a car (read all 2 entries…)
We did it. :)

Got myself a little red BMW – cherry red!

start a blog
If only I had something to write about...

that people would want to read about… lol.

get out of debt
Debt from surgery in 2009.

I started paying monthly a while ago, but being so young and so poor, it’s really hard. :( Would love to set a goal and work on it, get it paid off by June of next year maybe?

Send a postcard to Postsecret
Wanted to do this since I first began reading it...

Just not sure which secret I want to share… I have wanted to send one for so long but the commitment of making the postcard and sending it and the possibility of it being published for the world to see is so scary!

Send a message in a bottle
I don't know if I have anything important to say.

I want to send a message into the sea, but I’m not sure what I would say…

buy a car (read all 2 entries…)
Guess I should get a license first, huh?

We bought my boyfriend a car with our tax return this year, so I’m hoping that we can get a car for me with this year’s return!

get medical insurance (read all 2 entries…)
I really need to do this before more problems arrive.

I had my appendix removed in May of 2009 while I was still covered by my mom’s medical insurance. Unfortunately she had picked a really crappy medical plan and it only covered 80% of my surgery, so she got stuck with the extra %20 which totals well over $2,000. Since I was turning 19 that year, she decided to hand me over all of the bills, so now I have debt collectors and people calling my house day and night for the money that I don’t have! On top of that, I need a lot of dental work done, and would love to be able to see a doctor instead of living in fear of the money problems that will be tacked onto that. :( So this is on my list. I will probably be signing up for Medi-Cal within the next month or so to see if I qualify. :(

get my driver's license
I'm almost twenty and still don't have this done...

I am TERRIFIED of driving! Just driving in the passenger seat sometimes causes me to have high anxiety. My friend has agreed to take me driving to practice, and to take me for my permit test so that I can practice (legally) some more. I hope to have this over and done with by the end of 2010!

travel (read all 2 entries…)
Planning a road trip or two!

I’m planning a small road trip (14 hour drive) to Washington in a few weeks to visit my friend’s grandma – that should be super exciting since we’ll be able to stop by Seattle, which is where I think I’d like to move someday!! And then in a few months, when I have a few hundred bucks saved up, we’re planning another trip to New York. That will probably be really scary but SO liberating and thrilling. It’s a two day drive (non-stop) so I’ll have to have my license by then so we can share driving responsibility!

move away (read all 4 entries…)
We've moved out - again!

October of 2009 I moved out with my boyfriend, into a house just a few streets up from my mom’s. That was lovely for a while, but way out of our league.
We’ve just moved again to another town, and it’s scary but great. I will not take this off of my list until we move out of the same general area that we live in now. We are only 20 minutes North of where we were last time, so this doesn’t count, even though I’m proud of myself!

learn to speak french
it's such a beautiful language.

i work at a coffee shop, and two ladies always come in to sit upstairs, and i always turn down the music to listen to the rhythm of their conversation. they’re french and it fascinates me to hear something so exotic.

buy a cottage (read all 2 entries…)
Not buying... but renting. ;)

I’m actualy moving into a cute little cottage. It’s not isolated as I’d like it to be, it’s actually in an apartment complex. But it is a solitary cottage… surrounded by other solitary cottages. Haha. I’m pretty happy though.

Learn to cook (read all 2 entries…)
Out on my own... soon.

So I’m moving out, which means I’ll have to fend for myself. Luckily, I have two best friends that know how to cook food. So I will learn soon enough! Or starve trying. Lol.

ride a rollercoaster (read all 2 entries…)

Senior Trip is coming up in a few weeks. I’m pretty excited, as I’ve made my best friend promise that she force me to go on all of the rides. Haha. This should be interesting. :)

read a Stephen King novel (read all 2 entries…)
'Salem's Lot

Intense book. I really loved it. I’m reading Pet Semetary now. =D

move away (read all 4 entries…)
well on my way.

Well… I’m graduating this year. And I have made plans to move out of my house, and back to my old town to room with one of my best friends. First six months rent is free. I’m pretty excited. =)

walk more (read all 3 entries…)

alright. so i’ve walked every single weekend since i’ve moved here, basically. and i feel GREAT.

Design my dream house
Way on the backburner...

When I was young, I loved drawing out floorplans of my ‘dream house’. It was something to do, and I could have anything I could dream up, including an indoor koi pond, a whole room dedicated to movies, with screens lining the walls.

While I’d love to design a more… realistic version for my future, I’d like to figure out what I’m going to do with my life first. I’ll always be dreaming up new plans and ideas, though! :)
