My approach to Lent is that it is a season where I can be more mindful of all of my lifestyle, and I have the opportunity to adopt a new healthy practice into my days while giving up something else.
This year I decided that my obsession with checking my e-mail immediately after every activity or any time I’m around the computer has been taking up much of my time. So I committed to checking personal e-mail once a day (I still check school e-mails three or four times because there are work and community things that I must attend to).
So far it has been healthy and I’ve been discovering that nearly all of my e-mails are impersonal/junk – which I could not see when I was checking all of the time.

How I did it: I set reasonable goals, and when I did not feel like doing something I reminded myself, "It's only for February." Now I will re-evaluate and decide what to keep/change for March Read how I did it…
For the last year and a half I’ve been corresponding with a prisoner on Death Row in Ohio through DRSP. It has been both rewarding and draining, but offering connection to this person is one small way I’ve been able to show my opposition to the Death Penalty. Through DRSP over half of persons on Death Row are written to. If you’d like to get involved the website is:

Over the last month I’ve started to make entertainment and time-management decisions based on where I can walk. I’ve situated my life in a way that other than a couple of times a month I would never NEED to drive. However, particularly for safety concerns, it’s necessary to drive at night often.
All this said, since Christmas when my mom reminded me, “didn’t you take your apartment so that you could WALK to school?” I’ve been making a conscious effort to walk whenever possible. I know that it’s saving gas money and I’m feeling like it is helping my physical health as well. Yay for walking!
