If I have to choose between bungee jumping and sex, boy I wouldn’t know which one to choose, it’s THAT good.

I played the guitar for 7 years. I started off listening to good rock songs (because that’s where most of the guitar playing is) and working it out (so that you can play along with it), this helps your listening skills as well a great deal; I normally wouldn’t go for tab books unless I really can’t work it out because one can become too dependent on it. The next step is practice, practice, and more practice. There’s no easy way out on this, and not only it takes time, but patience and intuition as well – when you tried so hard but you still can’t play it, that’s when a little break, a little thought is needed, and then go back when you’re ready.
Having done that, and learnt a lot of songs, maybe you also want to jam with your friends as well, because sometimes practicing oneself sometimes messes one’s timing of the song; practicing together not only lets you and friends become closer, it also practices timing, which helps a great deal as well.
Most people wanted to play solos, and most of the time the solos are hardest to work out, but once you get to play it it’s truly satisfying!
Improvising is also a good way to practice, whether it’s just chord progression or scales, because this can help you familiarise with the guitar. As you becomes more and more familiar with those progressions, you can just improvise on anything that comes out of your head, which also helps – not just to impress others!
Depends on what you like, you may want to start writing songs – start from simple riffs, and eventually add on different instruments and textures (which means you probably want to learn other instruments as well, but you don’t have to); or you can learn a wide range of different songs, from genres such as blues, jazz, metal, reggae; or even just make create a riff, and jam along, improvise!
Of course I’m still learning, I’m currently practicing appregios and blues scales, and hope to learn more in the future, and maybe pick up classical guitar again.
I don’t know how that sound, I hope it doesn’t sound too bad.
