How many people out there have dealt with pain? I am talking about the kind of pain that interrupts your sleep. The kind that starts changing your life, choking you slowly.
5 years ago I started getting pain in my lower back after having my baby. Lifting weights helped, but running became impossible. For 5 yrs I was told that basically there was no reason for the pain. At first, I was irritated that just because a doc didn’t know what was wrong then they quickly jumped to the conclusion that it was all “supra-tentorial”, but after several doctor visits, part of me started to believe them. Suddenly, at 35, I started to conclude I was going crazy.
Then I finally got the surgery I needed- a hip replacement. How did they miss that so long? What is happening to health care that docs would rather assume that a previously healthy normal person is suddenly a malingerer or “histrionic” as one doctor suggested, just because they didn’t know what was wrong? What if they didn’t feel so pressured to find a quick diagnosis that they could feel that they could take the time to investigate the etiology of someone’s complaint? Now I am left with several herniated discs on the other side because my dysplastic hips made my pelvis uneven. All over the internet I see articles that site that untreated dysplasia often appears in your 30s. It can especially appear when one becomes deconditioned or over weight- like when you get pregnant and don’t have time to work out because you are exhausted by the time you get home from work. Of course my baby is worth it, but it didn’t have to come down to the choice of giving up my health to have her.
